Carbon Expo 2008

The gathering of entrepreneurs in the field of carbon trading, Carbon Expo 2008, has been held in Cologene, Germany, on 7-9 May 2008 ago. Activities organized by the World Bank, IETA (International Emissions Trading Association) and Koelnmesse is an annual event held since 2004. Carbon Expo 2008 was attended by approximately 3000 visitors came from 115 countries (an increase of 20% from the previous year), and 258 exhibitors are from more than 60 countries (up 16% from the previous year).

Carbon Expo 2008, presenting 22 workshops and 50 side event was divided into three sessions: "Project Stream", "Traders Stream" and "New Market Stream". The 3-day meeting to discuss all the aspects related to the rapid growth of the carbon market in the world, including the expansion of the United States and Australia and other countries, new technologies such as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), the Green Investment Scheme (GIS), the trend of the price of carbon, and further development of the carbon market in the future (before and after 2012).

Based on the World Bank report on "State and Trends of the Carbon Market", which was released on the first day of the expo, the global carbon market has increased from 10 billion USD in 2005 to more than 30 trillion USD in 2006, and increased double by the year 2007 amounted to 64 trillion USD. Improved double is unfortunately not followed by carbon markets in developing countries. CDM market volume only increased from 537 million tonnes CO2eq in 2006 to 551 million tonnes CO2eq in 2007.
