NASA: 2014 Was the Warmest Year Since 1880

Bogor, May 4, 2015

2014 is the hottest year since 1880, when records were first performed. This is revealed by two independent analyzes conducted by American scientists on Friday (16/1).

Earth's surface temperature analysis conducted by a team of NASA scientists at the Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) in New York. The analysis shows that, the average temperature in 2014 was 14.68 degrees Celsius, or 1.22 degrees above the average temperature in the 20th century. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) calculates, the average temperature in 2014 was slightly lower, namely, 14.52 degrees Celsius.

According to NASA, since 1880, the average temperature of the Earth's surface rose about 0.8 degrees Celsius. This phenomenon is caused mainly due to the increase in carbon dioxide and other emissions due to human impact into the Earth's atmosphere, especially in the last 30 years.

NOAA said that nine of the 10 warmest years on record global, occurred since 2000, and every year in the 21st century are the 20 hottest years in history.
