Directions of REDD+ Implementation

Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) held a meeting on Regulating Formulation and Strategy Implementation Regulation of Environment and Forestry 2017. The meeting was held on 22-25 January 2017 at the Hotel Santika Primer Slipi Jakarta and chaired by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Ms Siti Nurbaya. The meeting was attended by all Echelon I and the Secretary of the Directorate / Agency scope of the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

At the meeting, one of the policy agenda was discussed include the draft Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry on the Implementation of REDD+. The draft regulation submitted by the Director General of Climate Change, namely, Dr. Ir. Nur Masripatin M.For.Sc. The draft regulation is a step further after the Ministry of Environment and Forestry successfully incorporate REDD+ in one clause of the Paris Agreement.

Dr. Ir. Nur Masripatin, M.For.Sc. said that, the presence of this Regulation will unify and optimize the rules that previously were sporadic and partial. In addition, the regulation will also provide more detailed direction and concrete to local governments and other implementing in the implementation of REDD+.

The policy concept was welcomed by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, and then instructed to form a special team and also finalizing the concept in 2 month period. In addition, the Minister also gave an additional new tasks to the Team of Forest Fire Control and Land namely that can simultaneously address climate change by adding resources, she added.
